This does not occur for me... I can run windowed mode with a smaller size than my desktop. Do note that the fullscreen settings are completely separate from the windowed settings; changing the size of the fullscreen settings does not change the size when you're running in a window. Instead, look directly to the left and set the size there (and check that box). |

You are right, and it is a second case of me being stupid and being unable to read the options. This needs to be closed then. |

Personally I'd rather not see it closed, but instead suggest the change of letting the settings be the same; use fullscreen settings as windowed settings unless the checkbox is checked. I believe this would remove much of the confusion. I had the same problem myself back when I tried running the game windowed. |

This is a good idea. Having separate resolutions for Windowed and Fullscreen doesn't make much sense anyway, especially since the "faux fullscreen mode" is gone now. |

I agree with Toll. My first thought was that the full screen size would control the window size. This happens in some other games. Though frankly I'd prefer a smaller size than the full screen size as the default, so a separate control isn't a problem, as long as it's clear it's there. Why is there even a checkbox? Does anyone use a window with the checkbox off? |

The checkbox is how you get from windowed to fullscreen resolution. If you use OS methods (alt+enter), your resolution will be arbitrary as we can't detect that in unity. |

I'm not sure we're talking about the same checkbox. I'm talking about the "Size Game Window To" checkbox. What does it do when it's off? You say that for alt-enter size is arbitrary, so it's not a good idea to have it off, and otherwise it seems that it's just picking the desktop size and creates a window that's slightly too big for it. Under what circumstances do you think that a user who wants to run in a window will have that checked off?
(Maybe the behaviour of using the desktop size is not the standard, and just happened in my case? In any case, it's not clear what the game does when this isn't checked.)

Oh, I see what you mean -- yes, the "size window to" checkbox makes it use that windowed direct-typing method versus using the fullscreen dropdown size. I was referring to the "use fullscreen" checkbox. At any rate, for most users there is no reason to have this "size window to" checkbox off, but at one point in the past for the game some players were needing it. Probably time to phase that out for the sake of clarity, though.
Alt+enter should be considered unsupported and not used in general, as it will give whatever unity defaults to. |
