Summary | 0004327: Conversion workbench
Description | Converts item you have no need for into items you can use for example: - 2 health potions --> 1 mana potion of same tier as health potion - 1 health potion --> 1 mana potion 2 tiers lower than health potion - 4 health potions --> 1 health potion of a higher tier - any item to shards, amount of shards based on tier of item - any gem into 2 dust of the same type - 4 dust into a gem of the same type - 4 gems into any other gem In the beginning allow only conversion from health to mana potions/scrolls and back, but as the player levels up unlock more conversions they can perform.

We actually keep gems and dust separate for a very important reason: we want you to use gems for one thing, and dust for another :) We may allow converting gems to dust later on, but if we ever let you convert dust to gems then there will be some players who never ever ever make scrolls because that's missing out on potential gems. But if they can only use them on consumables, they'll actually use make consumables. Tier to higher tier conversions are somewhat less objectionable, but even there you get into problems where it could motivate the grinding of low-level gems as a less-challenging (but more annoying) way of getting the higher-level ones. And so on. Interchangeability is often not a good thing in game design. |

I get what you are saying about people grinding the lower tiers and converting up. The only thing is as I level up and start using higher tier items the lower ones are going to be worthless and will just be sitting in my inventory doing nothing. I think at the least we should be able to convert them into shards because they will always be used in the villages. I don't want to drop or destroy the items because there would be no point collecting more than I need to use. |

Yes, the idea that lower-level gems would become inconvenient trash has been something we've wanted to avoid since a very early stage of development. Quite a few other uses are planned for those, we're getting there :) |
