Summary | 0004260: Monster speeds do not correctly adjust to civilization level.
Description | Monsters that are your level have not been changed to the new speed values. Extreme variations in level may also be incorrect, but I have not tested them. Civ level +1 bats move slightly faster than you can run. Equal level bats move much slower than you can run. (About 1/2 as fast.) Civ level -1 bats move slightly slower than you can run.

I'm pretty sure this is working just fine, from my own testing and what you describe. The movement speed of your character is irrelevant to how fast enemies move -- they each have their own base speed, and bats for example are simply slower than you at their base speed. But when you apply the modifiers described in the release notes, getting the values you describe for the bat's speed relative to you seems reasonable. |
Wait, I'm just reading that a bit better -- dang, going through this too fast. Something also to be aware of is that enemies have two speeds: chasing speed and just wandering speed. Wandering speed is exactly half of their chasing speed. So it could be that the bat that you saw at an equal level simply wasn't chasing you. |
Version .505 offered an excellent opportunity to test this further. Monsters with a level equal to your civ level are about half as fast as they should be. No other problems with speed scaling were noticed. Testing method was to enter a Small Town zone and aggro a bat. Then I ran from the bat to compare its speed to the player's. |
Dang! My bad on that. You were absolutely right on the equal-level monsters. I didn't see it in the code at first, but I got it now. Thanks for your persistence on it! * Fixed a bug that was causing monsters that were your same level to be 0.6 the speed that they should have been. |
