Summary0003745: Von Neuman Golem
DescriptionThe idea of the Devourer golem was a huge gameplay changing effect for the better, but it needs to be expanded on. Why not make a Von Neuman Golem?
The purpose of a Von Neuman Golem is to wander the universe gathering resources to begin a reproduction process. Much like the devourer the Neuman golem will destroy all military ships inside its range, this includes turrets and AI Astro turret trains. In order to reproduce the Neuman requires 10,000 build points. For every Neuman in the galaxy the build cost increases by 5,000. The Neuman has simuler immunitys to the devourer including a immunity to the devourer. But can it be stopped?, Yes but its painfully hard, the newman should have the health of a average AI turret train. But that means the AI will rain down on it until its destroyed, wrong because it being old the AI targeting protocals class it as a rouge astroid. (Subject to change if needed) Also fires a beam much like the beam on the spire frigate, Dealing 50,000 worth of damage.
(I was thinking about giving it tractorbeams.... But i thought that would unbalence it, And ruin the lore about the AI thinking it as a astroid.)
When a ship is destroyed the Neuman gathers buildpoints based on its tech level, 100 buildpoints to the multiple of the tech level. If the ship has no tech level or is a turret it provides only 100 buildpoints regardless of its importance. With that strategy the neuman can only gain a max of 500 buildpoints from a single kill EVER. (More to be added later)

In another suggestion related to this, it can also be a new expansion instead of a new golem. Think "Rise of the ancient machines". Where recent ai activity has reactivated old machines like the Von Neuman ship, and (But not limited to) a giant battle platform that roams the systems obliterating everything higher then tech 1. (Might make another issue page for that)

I like the idea, but with the current changes that the devourer has (i.e. "immunity to all damage by not having a health bar") I would not give it "Devourer Immunities."

Von Neumans should be killable, otherwise a long game might end up with 15 or 20 of them roaming around making the game impossible to win.

Killable, possibly also act similar to shredders in that they take longer to replicate for each golem already in the galaxy.

Check the description, it already includes a shredder-like replication increase.

Oh, I suppose I should have reread it when replying to a post, rather than assuming I remember everything from last time I read it.

Interesting idea.

I like the idea, but the numbers need a bit of a tweak in my opinion. As it stands now the first replication would cost only 25 mk4 ships, which is nowhere near enough.

Maybe scale it inversely to the mk of ship it "eats"? So you want to keep your little guys away from it but send in highest mark. This would make it more dangerous like a devourer golem at start but later something you can tackle, hard. Or have it so consuming ai ships gives far less build points. Dunno if its possible code wise but be nice to think something special with human ships it likes to eat.

If it does make it into the game, it can be tweaked based on how it changes the game. Right now all we can do is think of what it might do, and make changes based on that.
