Summary | 0003501: An In Game Multiplayer Lobby that Works
Description | I know there has been alot of discussion about this. But a really, really simple multiplayer lobby would do wonders for this game. I think there are alot of players who get this game and simply don't know about all the tools you can get to make it work over the internet to play with friends, and the real meat of the gameplay is multiplayer. I don't care if you say you have a good time in single player, I've played a game with 5 people in it once and it's a seriously different gameplay experience. So, to get down to it, the features I think from what I've seen you guys do and what little I know about how this game works would work: 1: Simple list of games layout. A fixed description box will be located next to the the game list and when a game is selected in the box, it will give a description of the game, including rules breakdown, max players and possibly a preview of the map (Though I think the map would be considerably harder). 2. Games will be hosted by a host who chooses to create the game. Can promote other players who join the game to host. Controls all the function as a host in the usual manner. 3. Upon joining a game it's the same old game setup we've come to know and love. 4. Drop in/out support. You already have this in, just need it to work in this setting. I'm pretty sure you already have rules set up for all this. No random matchmaking. Just 1 server that you can join and find games to play on. You can join any game that's up there, or make a private one to play with your friends. Simple in style, which is what a multiplayer for this game needs. Having to use hamachi and such is problematic for people who don't even know what a VPN is. Seriously, this would be awesome, and do wonders for the community. I think it's important to note the forums and mantis, while being your core playerbase, aren't your entire playerbase. And this is a huge feature for those other players we don't hear from.

We're not considering this at this time, but you never know in the future. I doubt this is how we'd go about it, though. Right now the main thing on the table is the IRC channel, and we've discussed our reasoning for this in depth in the past. The IRC channel would serve a pretty similar function to what you're describing, on the bright side. |

I understand, this is just something I'd like to see in the game. :D Thanks for taking the time to answer. |
