Summary | 0003443: Galaxy starts with some neutral planets.
Description | I think it would add some variety if not all planets, but your own, start off owned by the AI. Say on an 80 planet map, 5% to 20% of the planets could be neutral, no command station or buildings. This still doesn't mean you should go and capture them all, some of them may lie next to high tier planets or have a lot of wormholes. Perhaps a small number of them could have no supply, they were nuked at some time in the past, some of them with just no resources. And perhaps some of them have slow attrition on all ships and buildings, which means you can use it to travel through but if you leave your ships parked there or try to build they will slowly die. It would be best as an option, but I think it's an interesting way to make the game a little easier if you still want to go against higher AI difficulties.

I think this should only be implemented if the AI also gets the recolonize ability. AI planets next to non-AI planets are put on alert and reenforce more often, by the time you get to it there may be too units to handle. This would probably be the primary reason for if this idea gets denied. |

It's a possibility, I suppose, but it would be really hard to balance around because it would cause a really big difficulty shift based on this one option; among other issues, such as the capturable seeding, etc. But it's a possibility. |

It sounds like something that could fit into an Expansion: not just having "neutral" in the sense of "nobody there" but some kind of marauder-like or neinzul-enclave-like factions and whatnot. So they would be alternate scenarios from the get-go, in a sense, and not expected to be balanced in quite the same way as the normal game any more than FS or Defender is. Just trying to drop neutrals into the main game would be pretty hairy and not actually give much fun-increase, I think. |

it doesn't really make sense in game settings. since AI already won war, and they captured and controlled, all planets, they could. besides few that left untouched (starting planets). there have to be reason why they not used, cant be just that its has low resources, AI doesn't need those resources. i would like this to start off, as when you have minor faction, the neinzul enclave like factions to have there own, planet where they Base Of Operations are BOO (lol) but anyway, planets have to have reason why they unoccupied maybe planet is super giant that has huge gravity that reduces speed of ships. or attrition of buildings due to solar pulsar being close by. it bee good thing to implement but needs story behind it like what OP said, where its been nuked and buildings cant be used there. this also gave me an idea. (reanimates of past ROP, bits and pieces to give you clues on how humans fighted and reacted to AI, like how u see metal in solar system that you use to fund infinite amount of ships lawl) |
