Summary | 0003417: Can't select Fallen Spire ship/structure force field modules
Description | When you click on the force field modules for Fallen Spires ships and structures, you select the entire ship. This is a problem when you research higher-level force field generators and want to upgrade --- I accidentally scrapped an entire shard reactor this way :(. I think this is because the module appears in the exact center of the model. I've been able to work around it by drawing a box with a mark-level filter, but this method tends to get other modules that are the same level as your current generator. I think the problem could be remedied if the force field module was offset very slightly, so the game can distinguish between it and the ship it's attached to.

I can't really offset the generator without the field being off-center. I'm pretty sure you can select it directly by box-selecting the middle of the ship and then clicking on the shield generator in the selection-description box in the bottorm right of the screen. |

I remember seeing a suggestion for docks and other constructors for a "template" option... perhaps something similar could be made for modular ships, where you could change it's template from the main ship and it would auto-scrap and build the modules that did not match the old configuration. Of course this is much more to implement... but it would also fix where 2 ships of identical configurations will show the "RESET" button despite being the same and having the same queues (usually empty) |
|
Oh, that's a much better workaround; I'm satisfied. |
|
On a related issue, it seems like you can't add modules to control groups, and I wonder if that would be easy to change? With the railgun modules, I often want to order to ship to go one place while its railguns fire at something on the other side of the map, I'd like to set up a control group just for them. |
|
A workaround for this is to target a specific thing (I'm assuming guard post) and then just right click a location to move to, the railguns (and other modules if in range) will all target the specific unit while the ship moves to the location you clicked after. |

Zoom in. When you zoom in you can easilly select all components, when you have a component selected and zoom out the game again defaults to having selected the ship, zoom back in and you again have the components selected, quite a nice way it has been implemented imo. |
