Summary0000032: 3.7 multiplayer lobby connection broken
DescriptionMe and KingIsaacLinksr tried to start a multiplayer game today in 3.700 beta and could not establish a connection. We tried different ports and no go. We then tried another game and could connect just fine to the ports in question.

It would appear multiplayer is _broken_ for 3.700.

Win7 x64 both of us.

Adding my notes from the forums:
We tried:

- opening a lobby to connect: "Connection failed"
- loading up a single game and adding another player: "Connection failed"
- loading up an old multiplayer savegame with the same players: "Connection failed"

Also, shouldn't this be a "major" bug, considering MP is one of the bigger selling points of AI:War?

It defaults to minor. That is very odd that you can't play this at all, given that it's working for me on my local machine, at least. Can both of you look in your RuntimeData folders inside the AI War folders and see if there are any error messages of any sort in there?

Also, are you seeing each other in the find local games, if you're local or on vpn? Or are you doing direct connect? Positive the IPs haven't changed, and that both of you are using the same port, and that the ports are open, all that good stuff?

Currently stuck at work, and King is on US time so he's headed to bed already, but we'll be checking this ASAP, rest assured.

We're not on local, since I'm in Europe and he's in USA and VPN have always been rather frail when you can just use direct connect.

And yeah, ports are open, IPs have changed, but he has my new one. We did test other games (primarily Supreme Commander:Forged Alliance) to make sure there were no IP/port issue. It went smoothly as ever on direct connect. But AI War refuses.

Tonight we'll try to test more games over different solutions to try and rule _any_ local issues. We'll get to the bottom of this!

Great! Thanks for all your help on that, too. I haven't had a chance to look into that yet from my end more than to make sure that the savegame connection was working, but I will be doing so Sunday night my time (US time, so late for you). We'll figure it out!

We've had a chance to test again now with 3.709 and there is still absolutely no go at all. I still have a few things to try (the old AI:War for instance) before going forward though.

Not surprising, in terms of the lobby, as I've not done anything much to that. But in terms of connecting existing savegames, I can definitely confirm that it is working, having played for several hours across the Internet myself, and having a couple of reports of some other folks also connecting fine with that.

The lobby stuff is a bug, but the connection issue itself must b something with your configuration, firewall, port settings, or similar. The only exception to that would be if one of the two of you are getting some exceptions logged into the RuntimeData folder in your game folder; if that's the case, then you're running into some form of exception that I can fix. But if it's just not finding the game, then it's a port/firewall/etc issue...

We did get a connection with 3.709 yesterday. (It didn't report a fail as it previously did.) But the game would not sync up or even move past the "Establishing COnnection" screen for King. This was the same across all three types of tests (Lobby, Loaded Savegame, New Game-add player).

We'll be testing more tonight, hopefully.

It may be that the host needs to adjust your Network Sync Size (and Skip Batch Network Sending) settings. And possibly your MTU, actually.

Whatever it was on the AI War 3.x versions should be fine, the code literally hasn't changed for that part. Those settings allow a workaround from certain driver/router bugs that sometimes crop up.

Good news. I have no idea what has changed now, but we tried Forged Alliance first and then the old Slim-DX AI War. Both ran smoothly as ever.

Then we tried 3.711 and we actually were able to connect today! Nothing changed, it just worked. We established a Lobby connection (but could not start), loaded a savegame and were able to connect!

I guess that means you can _finally_ close this report!

That is the oddest resolution ever, but glad it worked!
