Summary | 0003074: Longstanding Gripe with Engineers leaving position when not FRD
Description | If an engineer is repairing a ship, and that ship attempts to leave the engineer's range, the engineer will follow. If a ship the engineer is repairing moves through a wormhole, the engineer will go shooting off in some random direction. Force engineers to hold position regardless of repair target when not FRD - it's really annoying to have to go collect all your engineers every time you notice your fleet isn't getting repaired or whatnot, and it makes the engineers die constantly. If I wanted either of those things to happen, I'd FRD them. If this isn't possible, returning engineer targeting so that they can't autotarget moving units would be a decent compromise, I think.

Right now engineers on attack-move orders behave the same way as they do with FRD orders. Maybe make an engineer with an attack-move order use their current behavior they have when they have no orders, and then make their no orders behavior be standing still, but repair what is in their repair range without moving (as you just suggested) This way, people who like their current behavior can still use it. |

* When an engineer is repairing a ship, and it was not set to repair that ship explicitly by the player, and it's not in free-roaming defender mode or attack-move mode, it will no longer try to chase the ship it is repairing. Instead it will just find a better target and keep its position. This allows for players to exercise more tight control over their engineers now that engineers have a huge repair range and no longer teleport. |
