Description | I've come across quite a few of the AI's gravity guardians, and find that they are quite useless. A mark III gravity guardian has a gravity range of 9000... while many ships have a higher range than that and are able to easily kill the gravity guardian without trouble. This is what I suggest: Slightly lowering the firepower of the gravity guardian (we got plenty of high firepower guardians already anyways) and instead put a radar dampening on it. So if the gravity effect range is 9000, put a radar dampening of 8000 or 7000 or even 6000 on it. This would make it a bit more of an interesting foe. A whole bunch of your ships suddenly moving slower without being able to kill the cause of it in mere seconds could prove to be challenging. Plus it would give the gravity guardian the purpose it is created for: slowing down ships (or at least I assume that's what it's created for :P). just a thought that popped into mind. Fighters and bombers don't have more range than that, while many bonus ships do your only triangle option is the missile frigate. |

I would disagree with this. The fact is that most ships would be snarled up by a gravity guardians powers and would have to get closer than that to retaliate. The fact that SOME ships can shoot a Grav Guardian from outside its effect range is not an issue with the effect of the gravity gaurdian itself. Thats why such units exist. If you want to go that route you might as well remove all guardians bar the artillery, spider and sniper guardians. You might as well remove all tractor turrets etc. Hell tractor guardians can be shot down from outside tractor range. Besides the cry at the moment seems to be "Radar damning for everyone!" which is the worst form of power creep. Gravity guardians are fine in my opinion. They do their job as a road block very well and most units cant shoot them outside their effect range. The fact that a full cap of bombards can maybe one volley them is not really an issue, as you would have to remove everything bar Golems in that case. As it is my impression of them grav guardians that they are fairly tough, not fragile, and they are pitched just right. |

Maintaining a gravity range such that at least some ships can shoot it from outside the range is important, otherwise you can end up with your entire fleet getting snared and ganked without being able to do anything about it. Leave them as they are. |
