Summary | 0002551: Neinzul as a full player faction.
Description | I know you guys are busy with all your bug fixing and balance tweaking and so on, So feel more than free to just shove this away into long-term storage, I won't mind. At this point I'm just typing because I like the story setup that came about from reading and playing with all the Neinzul stuff. --- The undying menace of metal and menace spread throughout the galaxy, and our Memories, for all the billion generations of them, had never seen the like before. We fought with all the cunning we had, but for every hive we had, the enemy had thousands. It swept though the galaxy like a blade through the flesh, leaving our race a ragged shred of what we once were, fighting to keep the hive intact for our children. They were the lucky ones. Twenty one generations lived in fear of hive death and extinction. The twenty second generation saw a horror which made extinction look preferable. The machines had stopped destroying our sister hives. No longer content with destruction, they had begun to twist the great hives to their own ends, shattering the Hive's Memories, leaving crude imitations that left the hive's progeny knowing they were slaves to the machines, and had always been so. Our hive fought and lost, taking severe damage, and our archive has sheared into unresponsiveness. As we fled, we learned that our Hive was dying, and in a desperate bid to keep it alive, we bonded it to a large wreck in a system the machines had not yet inhabited. The bond was enough to keep the Hive's integrity, but came at a price. We are no longer mobile, and the machines know where a Hive they do not own is. The Hive will only have one layer of Memories, to offer our next of kin. They will know of our loss against the abomination, and of the billions of ancestor's Memories available should the damage can be repaired, if they do not lose hope in the dispair of how our sister hives have been corrupted. Wardens, forgive us for the minerals and crystals my decendants will collect to try to hold back the darkness of our race in eternal bondage. Today I am born, Today I die. Die free. --- So yeah, there's a fourish paragraph introduction to a Neinzul-based campaign mode. That's what you get when I try to reconcile Hybrid Hives (and all the AI controlled Neinzul) with the fact they're an independent race. Somehow I arrived at the conclusion that the AI figured out how to hack the Neinzul Hive Archives, so that new individuals would learn to be loyal to them. From that to "Well they wouldn't take that lying down", to "It's not like they'd have a chance against the AI", to finally "Maybe the AI didn't get them all, it's not like they're completionists when it comes to that". Then the setup started looking awfully familiar, only with a borg-like twist. Yeah, I know a new player faction would be a lot of work, consider that a bit of sleep deprived fan fiction or a window into a possible far future addition (AI War 5.0 GOTY edition?)

Well, it's a possible idea for a later expansion ;) And in general it's unlikely that we'd do it as a totally different faction as opposed to starting with humans and being able to ally with those Neinzul, it would take an enormous amount of effort to deal with all the assumptions that would be broken by having alternate basic structures, etc. |

Co-op. Neinzul lend their memories to the humans so they can gain their strenght in numbers while utilizing their own tech. |
