Summary | 0002495: Cloaked AI ships not going to FRD when waiting to attack at wormhole
Description | So I just played a quick game with a friend to test this out and we started on planets that had an easy choke point and we killed all the neighboring planets. There were only neutral planets bordering our planets. The AI would send a wave and it would show up as going to planet "???". The enemy ships would arrive and sit at the wormhole because their firepower rating wasn't high enough. This was all expected behavior except for one thing. The incoming AI fleet would still sit at the wormhole and ignore all human owned ships and buildings on the neutral planet until it was provoked by any human ship that moved close to the AI ships. Once provoked, the AI ships would then leave their post at the wormhole and start attacking the human ships and buildings on the neutral planet. This seems to be a pretty specific edge case so it isn't that important, but it just seemed a little odd for the AI to behave this way. It would be more natural, I think, for the ships to make themselves useful by attacking stuff on the planet they are on while waiting for the proper time to attack through the wormhole. EDIT: Changed the summary of the issue to more accurately describe what the issue is.

Are AI ships supposed to FRD when waiting to enter a player world from a neutral world? I think he is saying they currently don't. |
|
Yes, they do in cases I had seen. The reason I asked for a save is that apparently there is some edge case where they do not. |

Ok, after some testing I got some results. Apparently this issue only affects enemy cloaked ships in a wave which I probably should have mentioned was also the case in my original post above. Normal uncloaked ships behave just as you said they should, x4000, leaving their post to attack human owned things on the neutral planet. However, the save file I have doesn't exactly illustrate my point about the cloaked ships very well. First, I must mention that I used a bunch of cheats to do this quickly. I got the wave of cloaked ships to be sent as a wave. At the same time, I kinda stupidly sent a cursed golem through AI controlled space releasing a bunch of ships. Now I'm sure that I the cloaked ships WERE waiting at the wormhole but I spawned a botnet golem to clean up the normal ships. This was where I saved the file. Unfortunately I never realized that after spawning the botnet golem the neutral planet now had wayy more firepower than my home planet and the cloaked ships were now waiting inside my home planet somewhere (I had no cloak detection at any wormhole). This may or may not be relevant but I think this is also kinda weird. Sigh, I will run this test again properly to get the cloaked ships to wait as I explained in the original post... |

Ok, I put up my v2 test save and that one shows the original issue. There are 2k cloaked ships waiting outside the wormhole of my home planet not doing anything. If you move the decloaker in my home system (any ship would actually work) into the wormhole then all the cloaked ships decloak to fire and then proceed to FRD in the system they are on. |
|
Ah, ok! Thanks for the added clarifications. When it is cloaked ships, they are working as intended. Their first goal is to not give up cloaking unless they have a specific order from the AI. |
