Summary | 0002493: AI Cross-Planet Waves should group-move
Description | With Cross-Planet Waves and Schizophrenic Waves turned on, the AI will send the wave units to the wormhole outside their destination using normal move, which causes faster ships in the wave to pull way ahead and split up the group, making it trivially easy to dismantle the waves piecemeal with an aggressive defense. Instead, the AI should have all units in the wave group-move to their destination, or some other alternative that keeps them grouped up. Furthermore, there should be a solution for Youngling ships, as they will lose health on the trip from their origin to their destination, and arrive with far less health than they would have under normal waves. They also will attack on their own, which is obviously intended but just serves to make the AI dismantle a portion of its own fleet. A simple solution would be to have all Youngling ships loaded into Transports or Carriers or some weaker equivalent for cross-planet waves.

At first I was thinking that it shouldn't matter who gets to the enemy's side of the wormhole first, because the waiting until enough fire-power behaviour should stop them from prematurely entering. But now I see what you are saying, popping into the enemy system, killing some of the wave as it arrives piecemeal, and thus cutting down the force much easier. Nice catch. |

This is a tactic I use when assaulting planets in a line. Neuter one, park fleet, neuter the rest. Any force will move towards your home-CC on its own power which you catch when they reach the gate to your system, where they normally would group. Several planets can be neutered and taken with easy using this method as most ships will be released when you destroy the enemy CC. (And even transports keep working as you supply planets in line when no enemy CC is present.) |
