Summary | 0002480: Multiplayer Connection Issues
Description | Players in my game got de-synced, and everyone else got the waiting for players, after about six to eight minutes. This happened repeatedly with new games or loading old saves.

So I'm guessing you're using the 4.068 beta? We've gotten a few reports of desyncs in that. Or is this 4.021 or some other version? If you hit a desync and each of you can save at that point, attaching those saves is a big help. We are investigating the 4.068 (and 4.067, I think) desyncs from other reports, and appreciate any additional info you can provide :) |
4.021, i believe. |
Wow, that would be the first desync report for that version, definitely. Can you attach a save? (the Upload File thing on this page should work) |
where are the save files? |
From the game directory, go to RuntimeData and then from there to Save, they should be in there. As for where your game directory is, that varies based on where you got it. With steam it's something like "C:/Program Files (x86)/steam/steamapps/common/ai war fleet command/". |

I was not the main host, so it might not have all the files. I attempted to host it after it had failed on the other persons multiple times. This is my save off of his hosting. |
If you hit save-game while the game is playing (even after it's desync'd) you'll get the same file (which can be slightly different in the case of the desync, which can actually help us figure out what diverged if we have the saves of different people in the game). And there's only one file per save, no danger of missing some because you weren't the host. Looking at your save, it does say version 4.021... it just doesn't make sense, though, because that came out in October and no-one's reported desyncs in it yet, and just this last couple days people started hitting them in 4.068 (and I think 4.067), so I'm guessing that you're actually playing 4.067/8 and this is an old save from 4.021. The fact that you're hitting the same sorts of desyncs as the beta players and at the same time just makes it too much of a coincidence to be otherwise ;) But we'll see either way when we release 4.069 if y'all get a chance to try again, we're currently hunting through the changelogs to find what could be causing the desyncs. |
Ok, we've spent a few hours pouring over code diffs and can't see anything obvious, and other desync reports are looking more like networking problems, so it's kind of wait-and-see right now. FYI, here's the standard "what-to-do-if-you-lose-connection" procedure: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,53 You may want to try fiddling with the MTU setting, etc. |
It could even be an unreliable wireless network connection, come to that. If one of the players is losing connection temporarily, that might mean some packets are lost that prevent the game from continuing until you reload. The host should be able to tell which players have specifically lost connection, and/or if those players had a desync that is actually causing the issue. We can help with that further, and there are a number of topics in the tech support forum where players in the past ran into and solved problems with our help on things like that, but we can close this out as a desync investigation if we verify that's not what it is, at least -- best to be chasing the right issue! |
Here again, we need a lot more feedback before we can do anything with this one. Honestly, I'm thinking this one may be network trouble rather than a desync, especially if you really are on 4.021. There is a confirmed desync in the related thread, but it's really rare and hard to reproduce at this stage, and I really don't think it would be affecting you if you were on that far back of a version of the game. :/ |
Marking as closed, as we're unable to reproduce. Although, 0003077 may have fixed this, if it was actually a desync. |
