Summary0022782: Over-strong enemies spawning
DescriptionI'm playing against 3 AI's all level 6. I just killed one of them. Now there are fleets of strength >500 spawning in to take over AI planets (the AI I just killed?). Then when they've done that they move on to my stuff. I have a sum total fleet strength of 400, I can hold /one/ of these fleets back but they're coming at me from all sides. No possible way I can defend against more than one of them (and there are at least 3).

I've destroyed all neighbouring warp gates to my own planets, these aren't waves against me. AIP is around 180. Threat level is 1 possibly 2.

Note: I've only killed 1 of the 2 communication nodes, so no AI civil war.

Note: I've been playing strategy games for over 20 years; I'm fairly decent at them. I figured 6 should be ok from the blurb but it's definitely unwinnable right now.

You'd need to provide save games in order for us to figure out what's happening.

I think what's happening is this. When you kill an AI, it goes rogue and becomes the enemy of the other AIs. So the other AIs are sending waves against this rogue AI. AI waves against other AIs are extra strong. However, the ships from those waves shouldn't be going off to attack you, they should stay focused on the other AI.

I believe the attached will evidence it (1,575,092 bytes)

Confused. The AIP is stated to be 180, but the save provided has 321.

The Reconquest wave in the save is large, but after that they're all relatively tiny.

Strength goes up a bit, but there's no constant stream of 500+ S waves from the defeated AI. Seen one so far, but the Threat counter did not increase for this, seemingly suggesting they are not intentionally going after the player.

As a note, waves can still be sent against you - destroying every neighbouring Warp Gate does not stop it. If you left one alive, every wave would come through it. If there's none nearby, the wave just comes out at a farther away one.

Unsure what's going on here.

Sorry, my bad. It was 181 then I killed the AI, apparently that netted me 140!

I think there's an element of randomness. Just loaded this save myself and saw:

* For me there's a wave of about 200 that comes down from Yawning Angel (from?),
* and then a wave of about 300 that comes in from Happy Idiot Talk
* And of course the 500 from Questionable Ethics.
* at 10:10:00 a wave countdown starts against Parsimony 3 from Through at strength 595
* 10:13 about 250-300 attack me on You'll thank me later. Where did they come from?

The ships that attacked You'll Thank Me Later are from the wave on Questionable Ethics. Those ships are threat against the AI and are headed to the nearest AI planet to attack it. However, you have several planets on the way that are getting hit as collateral.

I think I can actually improve things a bit. There's code that makes AI waves during a Civil War extra strong, but this is also affecting waves against Rogue AIs.

I'll remove that bonus strength for the "rogue AI case", which should improve things.
