Summary0021333: Automated/eased placement (in some fashion) of turrets and minefields.

Hopefully? my last bit of suggesting hoping for one
of my favorite game to have a more out of niche appeal.
Straight to the point-> The greatest factor of micromanagement
at least for me was making turrets and minefields.
Let’s for the sake of argument say that you are new player
who doesn’t know the Ctrl+Shift Left Click Function
to build 5 turrets at once. (which I’m really confused
as to why it is not the default)

Since there are hundreds of turrets and with the increasing
number of minefields even in AI WAR 2 (I really liked
it when there were fewer minefields to establish
because I had make meaningful strategic choices on where
to place them… Now they are just placed in a line
from wormhole to my homebase…)

Ok, now there are at least a 60 minefields in the beginning
of AI War 2. The player has to press 60 times one the
mouse button just to lay the minefields.
It’s a tedious clickfest, and it becomes more tedious
as the game progresses.

I was hoping for a improvment in this feature because
Your efforts to make turret placement strategic
was really great cause the player had to make bottlenecks
to block out the AI. But even the placement I hope
will become strategic and meaningful numbers could
(just my recommendation) could be the solution.

My suggestion is to have a turret & minefield placement flag
clicked on where you want and it builds 5-10 depending
on the ‘slider’ automatically. And also features
such as building horizontally/vertically set as settings.
minimizing clickfests. AND better yet in addition to this
have a template for turret building which the player can customize
so that one press is all it takes to build turrets locally

The better suggestion which I would actually think is
more viable if other more ‘hardcore’ players agree to
is to reduce the number of turrets one can place
making meaningful strategic choices. (Visually there
could actually be more turrets-> as there are 5
currently visually on a single count)

This feature something that I really feel strongly about
and would add immensely to my & hopefully the community
and beginner players gameplay.

My notes:

This is a pretty tricky feature to implement, because ultimately people wind up wanting more and more control, and specific sorts of build patterns, etc. That sort of thing can literally take weeks to program, and right now my time is at a premium where I'm really having to prioritize what goes where, in terms of time.

It's entirely possible that instead of making things more automated, maybe we need to just have way fewer turrets and they are bigger and badder. But that's... troublesome on its own for a whole host of reasons.

We could make it so that you get 1/5th as many minefields, for instance, and make each minefield 5x larger and so that it lasts 5x more times. That probably wouldn't be the end of the world, since those are contact style fields. In fact it might actually make them more useful.

But for turrets, making it so that there are 1/5th or 1/10th as many of those, and they do 5x or 10x more damage and have the same amount more health... we'd easily run into cases where reload times are the big limiting factor, and/or they all start needing multi-shot of some sort.

Both of these things would also have a positive impact on performance (fewer things = less to calculate), not that we're really struggling on the performance front right now, but I worry about the impact to flexibility and balance in general. Something along those lines is something I'm open to, but I'd like to collect some feedback from more folks before I do anything drastic there.
