Summary0008657: Saving "Startup Scripts" in lobby
DescriptionIt'd be useful to be able to save the current lobby settings into the xml file structure of the "startup scripts".

It would enable the players to create (and share I guess) their own library of preferred game types.

I'm guessing that this sort of save wouldn't give any randomization or the like, but it would make a nice start of a script as well as serve as a convenient way to share lobby settings.

This way, your "lobby settings set script" combined with your map seed, AI settings, and map type would give a unique representation of a game setup.
Wait, are AI settings, like type and difficulty, and map type representable in these scripts? If so, then only two pieces of information would be needed, the "full set of options" script + map seed.

I'm not quite as to the entire scope of the changes, but it does alter AI type and difficulty, and everything logical under the "tabs" in the bottom left... in fact I think the only thing it doesn't change is the "performance profile" setting under the "game options" tab.

So in theory if you give someone the xml file, a map seed, and the home world to start on, they could reproduce an exact starting scenario.

As for me, I'd just want it so I could setup a few different scenarios to test with; things like "hard but potentially winnable 10 planet", "insanely tedious 120 planet", "bunny hop 40 planet" and so forth.

I would really like this. I could see weekly contests starting up, using some of the themes that darke up there mentions.

In order to use randomization, though, there would need to be advanced controls set up in the lobby for it. And the lobby is already a confusing enough place.

To clarify: it's not that the lobby is badly laid out or too difficult to use, it's just that it's pretty tough to tell what sort of game you're in for unless you have an intimate knowledge of the game itself. A new or even returning player might have no idea what they're in for, as it's not clear what game mechanics they're toying with when they enable sub-factions at level 4 or various AI plots. (And they won't know for at least an hour of playtime.)
