Summary | 0003094: Teleporting units don't respect group move
Description | When group-moving a unit ball containing teleporting units, the teleporters will instantly arrive at their destination, rather than moving with the group. In combat situations, this behaviour can be downright suicidal. Ideally, of course, the player will manage the teleporting units separately, but they should at least *try* to respect group move. If the teleporting unit can move at the group speed under normal power, it should do so. If not, the naive implementation would be to have them repeatedly teleport a distance of (group move speed * teleport interval) to approximate moving with the group. Another option would be to quietly assume that they are "micro-teleporting" to keep up, and bump their movement speed to match. In this case, however, they should be unable to fire while micro-teleporting, to mimic the paralysis of normal teleporting.

great idea. Having to order teleporting units seperately can be quite a nuisance |
It is indeed annoying, I've lost lots of teleporting units due to the fact they arrive at the fleet's target instantly, and then get wiped out, having to remember to de-select them every time is a hassle. |
This right here would make me consider using teleporting units seriously. As I mentioned before, one way to implement this is to have teleporting units group moving "mini-hop" every now and then (every half second or so) at just the right distance to maintain an average speed of whatever the group speed is. |
Agreedo. Teleporters are often delicate to offset their speed advantage. Either have them mini-hop or ignore group move orders until 80% of the group has reached range of the enemy. |
For 5.089: * Human-player teleporting units now use normal engines when group-moving. ** Along with this, increased the normal-engine speed of all teleporting units to the speed of a fighter, for those lower than that. Thanks :) |
